This website is run by Runton Parish Council.  We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.  For example, that means you should be able to:

• Change colours, contrast levels and fonts
• Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
• Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
• Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
• Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We have also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Alternative Text for images

All images on our website should have the appropriate alternative text set for them which will, for example, aid visually impaired users to understand the subject of any images on our website. If you encounter any image we have overlooked, without alternative text or with a value which you believe is not descriptive enough, please notify the Parish Council via our email address

Posters and Announcement images

We often publish news posts with images for posters and flyers. To aid accessibility  we will always add these with introductory accompanying text which we have previously not provided.

Line height, spacing between paragraphs and letter and word spacing

Users who have any issues with these styles (or adjustments using accessibility software) are invited to report any issues to us. We are unable to test this option as we do not have access to the full range of accessibility software which costs prohibit.

PDFs and other documents

Many of our older PDFs and Word documents do not meet accessibility standards – for example, they may not be structured so they are accessible to a screen reader. This does not meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2.

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs of meeting agendas and minutes as well as policy and procedure documents. We plan to gradually replace policy and procedure documents with accessible PDFs or HTML pages.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. For example, we do not plan to fix old copies of meeting minutes. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will aim to meet accessibility standards.

HOW WE TESTED THIS WEBSITE

We have undertaken to achieve maximum accessibility within the scope of the available technologies at our disposal, our knowledge of the required subject areas and the time/budget available to us.
